Wearable Devices
Electrophysiological experiments typically are carried out using rack-mounted, mains-powered equipment. This limits experiments to brief periods, physically tied to the laboratory. Building on work by Andrew Jackson on implantable devices (Plasticity), we are developing a miniature portable system which can be worn by a human subject. The diagram below shows the capabilities of our initial prototype system. The device can be used to record data whilst the subject is engaged in normal daily activities, or to deliver stimuli – possibly in a closed loop manner.
