Stroke
Stroke is the leading cause of disability in the developed world. We are fortunate in Newcastle to have an excellent clinical service for acute stroke care. The Newcastle Stroke Group carry out strong clinical research into stroke, and their director Prof. Gary Ford leads the National Stroke Network.
Within the Movement Laboratory, our novel work on the reticulospinal tract is uncovering the processes which underlie functional recovery. Attempts to sculpt reticulospinal plasticity to improve functional outcomes may be an initial application for our wearable devices.
